Hylocereus Undatus
Other names: Dragon fruit, dragon fruit, pitahaya
Harm score: 1 (Natural substances)
Hylocereus Undatus, also known as dragon fruit, pitahaya or dragon fruit, is a cactus plant that produces exotic, attractive fruit with a brilliant white, pink or red fleshy interior. It is native to tropical and subtropical areas of southern Mexico and Central America, but is now cultivated in many parts of the world, especially in Asia.
In stark contrast to their stunning appearance is the relatively mild flavour of the Dragon Fruit, which is often described as a cross between a kiwi and a pear. Its attractive colour and juicy texture make it a popular flavour in many products. In loose tea, we can find dried pieces of Dragon Fruit, which give the tea a subtle sweet taste and an attractive pink colour. Fruit yoghurts, on the other hand, make use of its mild but pleasantly refreshing flavour. Dragonfruit is also a popular flavour in drinks such as smoothies and shakes. Alternatively, it can be eaten on its own, fresh or as part of fruit salads. It also finds its application in the cosmetics industry, where its antioxidant-rich composition is used to make skin serums or masks.
