Harm score: 1 (Natural substances)
Honeybush, also known as "honey bush" or "honey bush tea", is a plant native to South Africa. The name "Honeybush" is derived from its scent, which is reminiscent of honey. The plant is very similar to the rooibos bush, also grown in South Africa, but is less abundant. It has large sweetish leaves which are usually collected, dried and then used to make tea.
Honeybush is mainly used to make herbal teas, which are popular for their mild, sweet and slightly spicy aroma with a hint of honey. In line with the growing popularity of herbal teas, honeybush has gained international recognition. In addition to beverages, honeybush is also used in cosmetics. Its extract is added to creams, masks, shampoos and other skin and hair care products. This is due to its high antioxidant content and ability to protect against UV rays. It is also found in some medical and pharmacological products where its anti-inflammatory and anti-viral properties are used.
