Galactoarabinan is a polysaccharide that is extracted from Larix. Other names for this compound are Galactoarabinan, Arabinogalactan, D-galacto-larabinan. This natural ingredient cannot be easily defined in just a few words. It is a so-called probiotic substance that promotes the growth and health of good bacteria. However, it is not a probiotic per se. Galactoarabinan is also an excellent source of fiber. It has remarkable properties, probably because of which it has become so popular in the cosmetic industry.
Galactoarabinan is successfully used in the pharmaceutical and food industries, where it is added as a stabilizer or emulsifier to various types of food and drugs. However, its main application is in the cosmetic industry. It is used in various types of cosmetic products as an emulsifier, thickener and stabiliser. In addition, it is recognized in cosmetics for its ability to improve product texture, skin hydration and is also attributed with the ability to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. It is also used in cosmetics because it enhances adhesion, i.e. adherence to the skin, thereby improving the function of make-up.
