Fusanus Spicatus, known in the Czech Republic as Australian sandalwood, is an evergreen tree native to Australia. Although it is relatively small and less than 9 metres tall, it is highly valued for its wood. Its trunk is elongated, with scaly bark and its leaves are lance-shaped. The Australian sandalwood is a complementary plant, which means that it draws its nutrients from the roots of other plants. The trunks of dutjahn, as it is also called in the Noongar language, are often twisted and the branches are covered with hard, grey-green leaves.
Australian sandalwood is mainly used for the manufacture of various products where its wood is a key ingredient. It is a woody plant with a high essential oil content, which is used in perfumery, but also in aromatherapy for its calming and relaxing effects. The wood is also used to make furniture and wooden objects such as decorative boxes, jewellery boxes or even musical instruments. Its fragrant resin is included in incense sticks and incense. Its extraordinary scent, which is at the same time sweet, woody and spicy, attracts customers all over the world. It is also used in medicine for its antiseptic properties, often in preparations for the treatment of acne and eczema.
