Clary sage, also known as Schizonepeta Stem, Japanese Catnip or jing jie, is a medicinal herb native to Asia that is often used in traditional Chinese medicine. Its relatively small flowers can be purple or white, but are very inconspicuous. It can also be grown in our area, and is best suited to full sun and greener garden soil. This herb is particularly notable for its anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties, which stem from its ability to affect the human immune system.
Knotweed is often used to make various extracts and these extracts are then used to make medicines and other medicinal products. Commonly used products include ointments and creams that are applied to the skin to help relieve various skin rashes, eczema or inflammation. It is also used to make teas and extracts that are intended for oral administration and generally have a positive effect on the immune system. However, its effects are still under research and should not replace conventional treatment. A specialist should always be consulted before using any product containing clary sage.
