Eucalyptus polybractea, also known as Woodland Garden Sunny Edge, Dappled Shade, Bog Garden, Eucalyptus or Blue Mallee, is a species of eucalyptus that occurs naturally in Australia. It grows as a small shrub or tree with a blue tinge to its leaves, reflecting one of its names - Blue Mallee. The tree usually grows to a height of 6 to 10 metres. It is an extremely hardy plant, able to survive in harsh conditions such as dry and sparsely populated areas, often on stony or sandy soils. Its branches are covered with stiff leaves which are also very aromatic.
The greatest use of Eucalyptus polybractea is in aromatherapy or essential oil production, where it is valued for its strong and unique aroma profile. Known for its strong antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, this eucalyptus oil is often used in household products such as cleaning products or in the cosmetic industry, especially in skin and hair care products. It is also used in medicine, particularly in the treatment of respiratory problems and muscle pain. Eucalyptus polybractea also produces a potent eucalyptus honey, which is popular for its distinctive and rich flavour profile. In agriculture, this species of eucalyptus is used to reclaim degraded soils and to create wind barriers.
