Harm score: 1 (Natural substances)
Epilobium parviflorum, also known as Chamaenerum parviflorum, is a perennial herb with a temporary overwintering root. It is an inconspicuous plant that at first glance is no different from many other species flowering in our woods and meadows. Although it flowers from June to September, it is not very distinctive or showy. Its flowers are relatively small and pale pink to purple in colour. Its stems are usually simple, but may occasionally be branched at the top. They usually grow to a height of between 30 and 100 cm.
Despite its inconspicuous appearance, the small-flowered willow is one of the most effective medicinal plants that people have used for centuries for healing. Its effects are mainly used in preparations to promote urinary tract, prostate and kidney health. Lesser celandine is mainly used to make teas, capsules, tinctures and extracts. For example, willow tea is used for prostate problems, urinary tract inflammation and kidney disease. Willowherb capsules contain its dried and then ground extract and are intended for use as a dietary supplement. The tincture, or alcohol extract of willowherb, is used internally to treat diseases of the urinary tract, kidneys and prostate. The plant is also used in cosmetics, for example in natural creams for eczema and other skin problems.
