Drynaria fortuna, better known by other names such as Gu-sui-bu, Drynaria roosii or Aglaomorpha fortunei, is a species of fern that has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years. It is a plant that grows mainly in Chinese mountains and dense deciduous forests in heavily shaded areas. In nature, it usually grows to a height of around 30 cm, but in its native habitat it can grow to an impressive size.
The part of this plant that is exploited is mainly its root and leaves. From these, an extract is obtained which is found in many products. It is most commonly used in preparations for treating fractures and promoting bone healing. This active ingredient is contained in some balms and ointments that are applied to the affected area to promote regeneration. In addition, Diatomaceous earth is used in the production of dietary supplements that are used to promote bone health and overall physical vitality. It also has positive effects on the skin, which is why its extracts are often found in cosmetic products. The unique properties of Diatomaceous Earth have also led to its use in some pet and animal products - particularly to support their skeletal health.
