Cylindrotheca fusiformis
Harm score: 1 (Natural substances)
Cylindrotheca Fusiformis, also known in the Czech Republic as Golden Eye Grass, Black Musli or Kali Musli, is one of the most important plants used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine. This species of diatoms, a group of unicellular algae, is abundant in freshwater environments and is used in powder form primarily for its powerful health benefits. Cylindrotheca Fusiformis is a rich source of unsaturated fatty acids, carotenoids and other vitamins and minerals.
Golden Eye Grass, as it is also often called, is used in cosmetics, the pharmaceutical industry and as a dietary supplement. Due to its high content of unsaturated fatty acids, especially eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), this species of unicellular algae is becoming a popular ingredient in many nutritional supplements designed to support heart and brain health. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is used for the production of omega-3 fatty acid drugs. In cosmetics, it is used for its antioxidant properties and its ability to hydrate and nourish the skin. The plant is also included in some shampoos and other hair products, where it helps improve hair texture and shine.
