Harm score: 3 (Harmless chemicals)
Cocamine oxide is a synthetic surfactant that works as an emulsifier and foam stabilizer in various personal care products and cleaning products. In addition to being called as cocamine oxide, it may also be referred to by other names such as Colalux CO, Unamine COO, Alkyldimethylamine Oxide, N, N-dimethyl-Cocamine Oxide or Cocalkyl-dimethyl, N-oxide.
It represents one of the most widely used ingredients in a range of products intended for everyday use. It is mainly found in soaps, shampoos, conditioners, shower gels, but also in various cleaning products. Cocamine oxide improves the performance of these products by enhancing their ability to dissolve and remove impurities. In personal care products, it also enhances their cosmetic properties. Its ability to form and stabilize foam improves the texture of these products while helping to achieve better product distribution on the body during washing. Its emulsifier function, in turn, allows homogeneous mixing of product ingredients that would otherwise separate.
