Clitoria ternata, also known by the English names Butterfly pea, Asian Pigeon wings, Blue Bell Vine, Cordofan Pea or Darwin Pea, is a plant belonging to the bean family. It is considered a tropical and subtropical liana and is native to Asia. As such, it prefers a warm and humid environment. In the Czech Republic, Clitoria ternata is considered more of an ornamental plant, used for cascading effects in garden compositions. Its large blue flowers are not only a tasteful aesthetic addition but also an edible product.

As already mentioned, the flowers of Ternatia clitoris are edible. They are a popular ingredient in Asian cuisine where, for example, they are added to salads, desserts or made into tea. Its blue flowers are also known for their ability to brighten the flavour of dishes. Succulent flowers can also be added as decorations to various dishes. Apart from their gastronomic use, the flowers are also used for extracting dye. The extract of the flowers is used for natural blue coloring of foods and drinks such as rice or cocktails. In traditional Ayurvedic medicine, the flowers, leaves and seeds of the plant are used for their medicinal properties. This fascinating plant thus hides many uses and is sure to charm everyone with its attractive appearance.
