CI 77288 (Chromium oxide green)
Other names: Natural green dye
Harm score: 2 (Derivatives of natural substances)
CI 77288, better known as chromium oxide green or natural green dye, is a high stability inorganic pigment. It is characterised by its intense green colour and high hiding power. Chromium oxide green is used in manufacturing and industry for a wide range of products primarily due to its stability and resistance to light, heat and chemicals.
It is mainly used in the cosmetics industry, where it serves as a colorant for the production of various types of make-up, eye shadows, lipsticks, mascaras, nail polishes and bath foams. Chromium oxide green is also frequently used in the construction industry, specifically in the production of building materials such as paints, coatings, varnishes, adhesives, sealants and plastics. Its resistance to light and temperature makes it excellent for exterior coatings. Even though it is an inorganic pigment, it is non-hazardous and can be used without restriction in cosmetics. Chromium oxide green is also popular in the ceramic industry where it is used to colour glazes and glass.
