Chinese mistletoe (Taxillus chinensis), sometimes also called mistletoe, is a semi-parasitic plant characterized by small orange flowers and rounded leaves. In its natural habitat, i.e. in China, its branches and leaves overgrow trees such as pear and peach trees, as well as other tree species. It then uses these plants as host organisms from which it takes nutrients. This plant has a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine, where it is known as Sang Ji Sheng.
The Chinese plant is particularly popular in Chinese medicine, where it is used to make various medicinal products. The main purpose of these preparations is to strengthen the kidneys and liver, treat hypertension, relieve joint pain, strengthen bones and muscles, and also treat various nervous disorders. The active substances of ochmet are also used in cosmetics, where they are used to make various creams and ointments for problematic skin. In Chinese cuisine it is used as a natural flavouring or garnish for many dishes. Its distinctive flavour and aroma add a unique character to dishes.
