Chinese cuscuta, also known as Cuscuta chinensis, Chinese cockscomb, tu zi si, dodder seeds, turnip, or honeysuckle, is a parasitic plant native to China. It has been used in the world of folk medicine for many millennia. It is known for its powerful medicinal properties and is included in many traditional Chinese herbal mixtures. As a unique plant parasite, the Chinese Kuscuta completely avoids photosynthesis and requires a host plant for its healthy growth.
The products in which couscous or extracts from it are used are mainly various herbal mixtures, teas and dietary supplements. In traditional Chinese medicine, for example, it is included in preparations for supporting the kidneys and liver, improving the quality of sleep, and against hair loss. Due to its effects, it is also used in some skin care products. Although Chinese couscous, like other herbs and natural products, cannot replace medical care for serious health problems, it is a very valuable and versatile supplementary medicine.
