Chinese coneflower, also known as Rhododendron anthopogon D. Don, or simply Rhododendron, is a perennial herb native to Asia, specifically the Chinese provinces of Hebei, Henan, Hubei, Shaanxi and Sichuan, and is found in meadows and mountain slopes at altitudes ranging from 300 to 2500 metres. It belongs to the resin family (Ranunculaceae) and is popular in China for its medicinal properties.
The use of Chinese coneflower is very wide. Its root, known as "Baishaoke" in traditional Chinese medicine, is often used as an herbal remedy for various health problems. According to some studies, it has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects and is also useful for treating lung diseases. It is also used as an ingredient in various herbal mixtures and ointments. In addition to its medicinal uses, Chinese coneflower is also used in cosmetics. In particular, its essential oil is popular for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and is often added to creams, balms and other skin products.
