Cannabidiol (CBD)
Other names: CBD, cannabidiol
Harm score: 1 (Natural substances)
Cannabidiol, often abbreviated as CBD, is one of more than a hundred chemicals found in cannabis sativa. Cannabidiol is one of the so-called cannabinoids. Unlike the cannabinoid THC, which is the main psychoactive component of cannabis and which has led to cannabis being banned in many parts of the world, CBD does not have any significant psychoactive properties.
CBD is used in many products, especially in medicine and cosmetics. In medicine, cannabidiol is used for its therapeutic properties. Its main benefits are achieved mainly in the therapy of pain, inflammation, depression and anxiety. It can also alleviate some symptoms of cancer or its treatments such as chemotherapy. Furthermore, CBD oil is used in cosmetics, where it counteracts acne due to its anti-inflammatory properties. It is also added to various creams, balm or shampoos to promote skin and hair health. Another popular category of products with CBD is food and dietary supplements, which include teas, candies, protein bars and CBD-enriched coffee.
