Candelilla wax, also known as Candelilla wax, Candelilla wax or E 902, is a product of plant origin. This wax is formed from the stems and leaves of the Euphorbia antisyphilitica and Euphorbia cerifera plants, which grow in the semi-desert regions of North and South America. This wax allows these plants to retain moisture in extreme conditions. Candelilla wax is more difficult to produce than other waxes and is therefore expensive. However, it has excellent properties and is widely used in the cosmetic and food industries.
Candelilla wax is particularly popular because of its highly emulsifying ability. In the cosmetics industry it is used to improve the texture and stability of products such as lipsticks, lip balms, creams, make-up, deodorants or moisturizing lotions. It is an excellent vegan alternative to beeswax, which is commonly used in cosmetic products. Its other advantage is its ability to create a shine on the surface of products. In the food industry, Candelilla wax is used as a glaze for fruits, vegetables, meat, pastries or sweets, giving them a shine while protecting them from drying out. It is also a component of some food supplements and serves as a coating for coffee beans during roasting.
