Calcium Ketogluconate
Other names: Calcium ketoglutanate, calcium 2.ketogluconate, Ca-2K
Harm score: 2 (Derivatives of natural substances)
Calcium Ketogluconate, also known as Calcium Ketoglutanate, Calcium 2. Ketogluconate or simply Ca-2K, is one of the lesser known but no less important chemical compounds of calcium. This compound does not occur naturally and therefore must be produced synthetically. Its production consists of the reaction of ketogluconic acid with calcium salts. Due to its stability, calcium ketogluconate is used in a number of different applications.
The main uses of calcium ketoglucanate include the cosmetic industry and pharmaceutical production. In cosmetics, it is used as a pH regulator to help maintain the optimum acidity of cosmetic products and prevent potential skin irritations. Due to its high bioavailability, calcium 2 ketogluconate is also often taken as a dietary supplement to increase calcium levels in the body. Calcium is an important mineral for bone and dental health, but also for proper muscle and nervous system function. In medicine, calcium ketogluconate is used, for example, in infusion solutions for the treatment of hypocalcemia, i.e. low levels of calcium in the blood.
