Calcium Glycerophosphate
Other names: Calcium glycerophosphate, 1,3-dihydroxypropan-2-yl phosphate
Harm score: 2 (Derivatives of natural substances)
Calcium Glycerophosphate, also referred to as Calcium Glycerophosphate or 1,3-dihydroxypropan-2-yl phosphate, is a substance that is characterized by its high calcium content. In the body, it acts as a stabilizer for certain types of minerals and is important for the proper function of bones and teeth. The sodium salt of glycerophosphate, on the other hand, is used to reduce the acidity of gastric juices and in oral care to suppress the overgrowth of bacteria that cause tooth decay.
Calcium Glycerophosphate is often included in various food supplements, dietary foods and also some beverages. Its main advantage is that it is able to supply the body with the necessary calcium without increasing phosphorus levels. It is used in the treatment of osteoporosis, where its ability to promote bone formation is used. It is also a component of some toothpastes, where it counteracts oral acidification and tooth decay. However, it can also be found in cosmetic products such as hair conditioners or moisturisers, where it acts as a pH regulator.
