Bidens tripartite (Bidens tripartita)

Bidens tripartita is a plant that is known by many other folk names. The most common ones include trident, two-tooth, two-tooth, water lice, pigweed, or gypsy, and the name itself suggests that the plant has triplets in its leaves. This plant, which can be found mostly in wet places such as ditches, pond banks, or wetlands, is a member of the starwort family. Apart from the Czech Republic, it also grows in many other European countries and Asia.

The trident is characterised by its deeply dissected leaves and small yellow flowers. As far as its uses are concerned, then it is mainly known for its medicinal effects. The plant contains many valuable substances such as tannins or flavonoids. It is a popular ingredient in many tea blends, which are mainly intended to boost immunity, but also to help treat various digestive problems, urinary tract diseases or as a remedy for skin problems. In addition, its extract is used in the cosmetics industry, especially in products designed for problematic skin. Due to its soothing effect, it is also included in some preparations to calm and improve sleep.
