Basic Blue 99 is a chemical known as Ammonium Sulfate, Mascagnite, Sulfuric Acid, or E517, among others. This substance is a colorless to white crystalline substance that is very soluble in water. It is used in industry not only for its colour properties but also as a source of nitrogen. Nitrogen is essential for plant growth and so is often used in agriculture.
Basic Blue 99 is widely used in the textile industry where it is used as a dye. Its properties make it suitable for dyeing cotton, silk, wool, nylon, but also paper and wood. Ammonium sulfate is also known as a component of urea fertilizers. Ammonium sulphate is also found in the food industry where it is used as an acidity regulator and is also known by its code E517. It is also contained in certain types of bakery products, such as bread, to improve its texture and extend its shelf life.
