Arisaema amurense (Arisaema amurense)

Other names: Sorry, Tian Nan Xing

Harm score: 1 (Natural substances)

Arizéma amur is a mildly poisonous plant that belongs to the aronia family and is related to the aronia. It is native to the far east of Russia, northeastern China and Japan. The plant is relatively inconspicuous at around one metre tall, but its appearance is very interesting as it has only a single leaf which is divided into three parts. The flowers are bisexual and arranged in spikes. The fruit is a red berry which contrasts sharply with the otherwise green plant.

Arizéma amur, also known as regretwort or in Chinese environments as Tian Nan Xing, is mainly used in traditional Chinese medicine. Its tubercles are dried and used to treat various health problems such as eye inflammation, headaches, high blood pressure, rheumatism or to improve respiratory function. However, proper processing is very important, as the plant is poisonous when unprepared. Due to its mode of action, it is also used in anti-carcinogenic therapy. Arizéma amur may also appear in the production of herbal liqueurs.
