Aniba parviflora

Harm score: 1 (Natural substances)

Aniba Parviflora, also known by the names Trans anethole, 1-(p-Methoxyphenyl)propene, Isoestragole, p-propenylanisole or anethole, is highly valued for its aromatic and medicinal properties. It is an evergreen tree native to the Amazon rainforest of Brazil. It grows up to 20 metres high and is characterised by its small white flowers. But what is most prized is its wood and the essential oil extracted from it. This oil is characterized by a sweet and spicy scent, which is similar to that of aniseed or fennel.

Aniba Parviflora essential oil, also known as Rosewood oil, is used in a number of products. Its main ingredient is linalool, which has antiseptic, antimicrobial, antiviral and antibacterial properties. The oil is thus often used in the cosmetics industry, especially in skin care products. It is also used in perfumery for its unique fragrance. Aniba Parviflora is also used in some food products, specifically as a natural flavouring in candies, chewing gum or some beverages. Trans anethole, the main component of Aniba Parviflora oil, has a more pronounced taste and fewer calories compared to other natural sweeteners and is therefore becoming increasingly popular.
