Acetyl Tributyl Citrate
Harm score: 3 (Harmless chemicals)
Acetyl tributyl citrate (ATBC), also known as Mango, is an organic substance that is produced from renewable resources. It has a wide range of uses and can be found in many of the products we use every day. In particular, it is a frequently used alternative to phthalates in plastics due to its safety and biodegradability. ATBC is resistant to microbial degradation and provides excellent mild plasticization and good compatibility. It is these properties that make it a suitable ingredient for the production of various types of plastics, including food packaging, toys, medical supplies and cosmetic products. ATBC also has the advantage that its impact on human health is much lower than that of traditional phthalates.
In products such as ink-jet cartridges and foamed PVC, ATBC is again used due to its lubricating properties and its ability to increase the flexibility of the resulting material. Furthermore, Mango is used in the pharmaceutical industry as a plasticizer in the production of tablet coatings or as a drug release ingredient in dosage forms. In the cosmetics industry, its moisturizing and smoothing effect is widely exploited, which is why it is often found in hand creams, body lotions, conditioners, as well as in some types of deodorants and lipsticks. This wide range of uses makes ATBC a real all-rounder in the industry.
