Harm score: 4 (Slightly harmful chemistry)
5-Amino-6-Chloro-O-Cresol, also known by the names 3-amino-2-chloro-6-methylphenol, 3-Amino-2-chloro-6-methylphenol, or 2-Methyl-5-Amino-6-Chlorophenol, is an organic compound that is primarily used in the cosmetic industry. This substance is part of a large group of chemicals referred to as aromatic amines, mainly because it consists of an amine and a benzene-type group on the aromatic nucleus.
At first glance, it might seem that the use of this type of chemical in cosmetics is inappropriate, but 5-Amino-6-Chloro-O-Cresol has its own specific uses. Its main area of application is hair dyes. Thanks to its chemical composition, it can effectively penetrate the hair structure and colour it. In addition, this substance is able to react with other ingredients in hair dye products to produce a wide range of shades. Although 5-Amino-6-Chloro-O-Cresol is an amine, it is one of the time-resistant substances and thus stays on the hair for a long time and does not wash out as easily as some other chemicals used in cosmetics. However, it should be noted that despite its widespread use in the cosmetic industry, 5-Amino-6-Chloro-O-Cresol may be allergenic to some individuals.
